Somalia: Military, police forces clash in Beledweyne town
A group of police officers engaged in a gunfight with army soldiers in Beledweyne town, the regional capital of Somalia’s central region of Hiiraan on Thursday, July 20.
The gunfight flared after the Military forces attacked the Police headquarters in the district. The motive behind the raid is yet unclear.
Local sources say, police officers and national army troops quarreled over the control of the town; subsequently triggering a gun battle that caused no casualties.
Latest reports from the town indicate that African Union peacekeepers later intervened in the clash, and later brought the situation to normal and under control
