Somali federal government has reiterated its commitment to resolve the country’s electoral impasse and warned of external actors not to interfere with Somalia’s internal affairs.

In a statement released on Friday Somalia stated that it was ready to implement the 17 September pact and international partners to keep off from interfering in its internal affairs and national elections.

“In response to concerns regarding electoral security, we would like to hereby reaffirm that the National Election Security Task Force led by the Prime Minister will be the mechanism through which all election-related security issues will be addressed.

Statement by Foreign Minister reacted to pressure from the United States to the United Nations and Security Council following this week’s failed talks between the federal government and the regional state leaders.

This comes barely a week after the international community urged the Somali leaders to resolve the electoral stalemate.

”We urge FGS and FMS leaders to use this opportunity to resolve their differences and make the necessary compromises in order to ensure that credible, timely, and peaceful elections can be held without further delay to allow Somalia to move forward.”
