The authorities in Hirshabelle state on Friday appointed a new mayor for Beledweyne, the headquarters of Hiiraan region to end two-month-long vacant position.
In a statement by Hirshabelle government, the state’s Interior Ministry appointed Ali Abdikadir Farah as the new mayor of Beledweyne town.
“With the respect to the views of the governor of Hiiraan region and having discussed with the lawmakers hailing from the region, I appointed Ali Abdikadir Fatah as the mayor of Beledweyne,” Mohamed Ali Adale, Hirshabelle Interior Minister.
In the statement, the Minister also appointed Abdirahman Hussein Mohamed and Hassan Abdulle Ibrahim as assistant Beledweyne district commissioners for Social Affairs and political affairs respectively.
In March, Hirshabelle government sacked Ali Dhuh Abdi who served the town as mayor for the last two years.
The reason behind the sacking of Abdi has not been mentioned.
The new appointment comes a month after Jama Farah Kaba-weyne was nominated for the Deputy Governor of Hiiraan region turned down his appointment to hold the post.
Kaba-weyne who trader in Beledweyne town cited a complete lack of consultation before his appointment.
“I heard my nomination on the radio, There was no consultation given, I am a shop owner living in Beledweyne, and I don’t need a position within Hirshabelle administration,” Kaba-weyne said.
