South West cabinet held urgent meeting in Baidoa
The cabinet minister of South West state held an extra-ordinary meeting in Baidoa on Tuesday.
Today’s cabinet meeting chaired the state leader, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden focused on the effects on the recent floods of river Shabelle to the farmers of Lower Shabelle region and ways improving the production of the farmers in the region.
Similarly officials from the government of Italy were in attendance during the cabinet meeting held the presidential palace in Baidoa.
The cabinet listened reports from the ministers of agriculture and livestock on the consequences of the flush floods in region particularly the revine areas.
Sources close to the presidential palace of South West state said the officials from Italy are expected to pay visit to areas affected by river Shabelle floods in Lower Shabelle region.
They will assess the impact of the torrential rain and the subsequent flush floods of River Shabelle to the accessible agricultural areas in the region.
The exact place and when the delegates will reach the area was not disclosed.
River Shabelle, which stretches from Ethiopian highland, broke its banks following the torrential rains in parts of Somalia and Ethiopia.
The number of flood victims in Somalia’s riverine regions reached to about 300,000 people following the flash floods in Hiran and Shabelle regions.
At least 200,000 people in Beledweyne town displaced by floods are were left homeless after floods inundated their houses.
