Somalia: Calm returns to Beledweyne following dead fighting
Calm has returned to Beledweyne on Tuesday morning after two rival clan militiamen fiercely fought over the control of the city’s western side on Monday.
The fighting left at least 10 people dead while 20 others were wounded, according to medical officials.
Bashir Abdullahi, a freelance journalist in the city says despite the calm people are worried about possible resumption of hostilities as there are reports that the opposing sides are regrouping for possible attack on the city.
Mohamed Osman Abdi, the mayor of Beledweyne has told somlireport on the phone from the city that they are intervening the situation and urging the two warring clans to end their fued through peaceful dialogue.
“The local elders have taken the Somali national and white peace flag and went to the conflict area to defuse the tension between the the clans,” said Beledweyne Mayor.
