Somali Prime Minister Arrives In Garowe, Puntland Capital
A high-level delegation led by Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire is scheduled has arrived in Garowe, the capital of Puntland State on Sunday morning.
On arrival, the Premier and his entourage received a warm welcome from Puntland President, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali “Gaas”, members of his cabinet and cheering crowd.
Hundreds of soldiers have been deployed in the town’s streets to beef up the security ahead of the visit, which becomes the first by PM Khaire since he came to office.
The Prime Minister and cabinet ministers in his delegation will attend the ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the inception of Puntland state.
Puntland, an arid region of north-east Somalia, declared itself an autonomous state in August 1998, in part to avoid the clan warfare engulfing southern Somalia.
