Farmaajo Calls For A Ceasefire In Tukaraq
Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has called for an immediate end to the fighting between semi autonomous state of Puntland and the breakaway region of Somaliland.
Addressing a Friday Prayers congregation at the Shuhadaa Mosque in Mogadishu Farmaajo said the lose of life witnessed must come to stop.
“I call on those spilling blood in Tukaraq, I ask you to immediately effect ceasefire, no more blood should be split. We are working hard to end the conflict. We need everyone’s cooperation’
Somalia’s Puntland State and the breakaway Somaliland clashed on Thursday morning in the border town of Tukaraq.
Residents told Radio Dalsan that both sides used heavy artillery in this latest flare up between in the disputed Sool region.
Hundreds of residents have been forced to flee with the fighting is reported to be on going with deaths feared from both sides.
Last week at least 20 soldiers wee killed. Medical sources however say Thursday’s death toll may be the highest ever since the conflict started in January.
Somaliland and Puntland are both pointing fingers at the other for starting this latest fighting.
