In a Tweet the two time PM and former Somali ambassador to US said it is a serious concern if the government signs the pact.
“A rumored Security/Defense pact between Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia can be a risk factor that warrants attention,” the former PM Omar said.
Sharmarke was the Prime Minister of Somalia. He subsequently briefly served as Somalia’s Ambassador to the United States in 2014.
In December 2014, Sharmarke was reappointed Prime Minister of Somalia. His term ended on 1 March 2017, and he was replaced by Hassan Ali Kheire.
The remarks by the Omar comes amid reports of President Farmaajo due to travel to AddisAbaba the capital of Ethiopia where leaders of Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea are expected to sign a mutual security and defense pact.
Information Minister Osman Dube did not respond somaliareport24 requests for comment on the reports of the president to sign pact with the three Horn of African nations.
The development comes days after the international partners called on the Somali leaders to stay in Mogadishu until decision is reached.
