Eritrean president arrives in Addis Ababa

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki has arrived in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa on Saturday.

The president and his delegates were welcomed by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met him at the airport.

Thousands have turned out in the capital, under tight security to welcome President Isaias who will be staying in Addis Ababa for a three-day state.

Mr. Isaias is expected to hold talks with Ethiopian leaders amid a dramatic diplomatic thaw between the once-bitter rivals.

On Monday, President Isaias is scheduled to officially reopen his country’s embassy in Addis Ababa.
