Deadly bomb explosion kills at least 10 killed in Mogadishu
At least 10 people have been killed while more than 10 others injured in deadly car bomb hit popular Jazeera hotel near city’s airport in Mogadishu, witnesses said.
The Jazeera hotel is home to diplomats, Somalia MPs, ministers and foreign embassies including China and Qatar, according to sources who spoke to Shabelle Media in Mogadishu.
The death toll could likely rise because dozens have been seriously wounded in the bomb assault on the hotel.
“I saw … several people burned by the flames of the explosions lying on the blood-filled ground inside the hotel,” said a witness who asked to be anonymous for security reasons.
In an online statement, Al Shabab claimed to have carried out suicide bomb attack on Jazeera hotel popular with MPs, foreign diplomats and well-known politicians as well as Somalis from Diaspora.
Bombings have rattled Mogadishu in regular intervals this year, and Al-Shabaab has regularly taken responsibility for them.
The Islamists vowed to step up its attacks against popular eateries, Somalia army bases and African Union peacekeeping forces’ camps in the horn-of African country.
