50 people hospitalised after food poisoning in Central Somalia
Over twenty local residents of Hananbure village in Somalia’s central region, Galgaduud, are recuperating at the village’s dispensary as more than fifteen others are in serious condition after a suspected case of food poisoning.
Over 50 people who included men, women, and children, took the food on Friday afternoon during preparations for a ceremony that took place later that evening at Hananbure Village in Galgaduud region.
The victims were rushed to the facility after they started vomiting and experiencing abdominal pains.
Nur Iman Hassan, a resident of Hananbure village told Halbeeg News that 50 victims started complaining about abdominal pains after eating contaminated from food at a feast.
“Hours after eating food prepared at a ceremony, they started having stomach pains and headache as they vomited then they were admitted at the dispensary for treatment,” Mr. Hassan said.
Mr. Hassan said the conditions of some of the victims had deteriorated and they need for further medication.
“Several of them were treated and discharged and all are in stable condition but there are other whose condition is stable and need further medication,” he stated.
