UAE allocates monthy financial Support to Federal Government, Puntland , Jubbaland and Gal Mudug – Financial Report
On September 2013, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud asked for long-term international support while confirming his nation’s commitment to fight piracy before an audience of government ministers, military personnel and heads of maritime and security businesses at the third Counter-Piracy conference in Dubai .
“The country is now ready to work with international partners in implementing key priorities such as security, justice reform, public finance management, good governance,” Mr Mohamud said.
“We are also building our coastguard capabilities in order to protect our waters from pirates … Building an effective coast guard can interdict, disrupt and persecute pirates while ensuring transnational trade and maritime security in the Gulf of Aden and western Indian Ocean.”
In the conference Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the UAE was committed to helping Somalia realise its aims by providing support in development projects to fight piracy and build trade in areas such as renewable energy.
The UAE has so far provided $22m to Somalia in development aid, of which a large portion has gone towards food aid programmes and supplying drinking water.
Reliable reports lose to indicate Somali government told Somalireport24.com that UAE supplies estimated $ 1,400,000 USD monthly financial support to Somalia.
This amount of splited among regional states along with the Federal Government and is dispersed to Puntland located $ 600,000 USD per month , Somaliland which recieves $ 800.000 USD per month and Jubbaland and Gal Mudug receiving $ 300.000 USD each per month, as the reports indicate.
This financial support directed to the Finance Ministry of the Federal Government which dispatched to its accounts in the private bank of Dahabshiil
Ali Suldan , finance and management officer from Puntland has confirmed the reports saying that Puntland formally recieves this financial from UAE Embassy in Mogadishu.
Government of Qatar which backed the current government during elections that led President Hassan become Somalia’s President endeavors to replace UAE which provide support in development projects including building coastguard, judicial institutions and provide jobs to young people to tackle the root causes of piracy, schools , medical and orphanage centers .
