Somalia-Somaliland talks restarts in the next few weeks , says EU envoy
European Union Special Envoy to Somalia Mr Michele Cervone d’Urso who paid visit to the Self-declared Republic of Somaliland on Wednesday met with President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo and they have discussed issues relating to development and enhancing political dialogue and efforts to resume talks between Somalia and Somaliland over the future of their political relationship.
Speaking at a press conference in Hargeysa Mr Cervone d’Urso said that EU is strongly support the continuation of talks which started in Turkey in 2012.
“The talks will start in Turkey in the next few weeks and EU will play a greater role to achieve tangible results “ said Cervone d’Urso .
EU tries to persuade the two sides easing their tension and moving forward from divisive issues including air traffic control management.
Somalia has the intention re-uniting Somaliland with the rest of the country while Somaliland views the dialogue as an opportunity to acchieve recognition as an independent country.
Somaliland declared its succession from Somalia in 1991 after the collapse of the late military regime led by General Mohamed Siyad Barre.
