Somalia Reports 8 New COVID-19 Deaths, Over 160 Cases
Somalia on Thursday confirmed eight new COVID-19-related deaths and 162 new infections in the past 24 hours.
The new cases pushed the death toll to 471 and the number of infections to 10,664, with 4,634 recoveries, according to the Health Ministry.
The Horn of Africa nation, which has recently experienced a surge of cases, last week received its first shipment of 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the international COVAX initiative to ensure that low- and middle-income countries receive vaccines.
But some ordinary civilians are not keen on getting vaccinated.
The first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign started in the horn African country for frontline health workers, teachers and security personnel.
