Somalia: Puntland journalists wrangle over widespread corruption on MAP
Senior Somali journalist Hussein Madar has strongly condemned the reported wide spread corruption inside Puntland’s Media Association board. He said that MAP Chairman Faysal Kalif has failed to address a growing corruption in the last two months.
More than 11 journalists in Bosaaso town have gathered a meeting on the issue after MAP board recruited corrupt journalists in MAP’s office who are assigned to run and decide its fate according to Puntlandi editor, Abdkani Abdulahi Abdi.
The journalists have touched on a wide range of issue including how to cope with the upward exploitation from the MAP‘s head and his close allies in Bosaso and Garowe,Abdkani added.
“Currently MAP Chairman is misguiding and exploiting the rights of many journalists living in here, Puntland , we have been watching his massive rife exploitation towards the association “ Madar told local reporters in a press convention.
The only Female who was serving as the General Secretary of the Association has been forced to leave her position following ordinary censorship from Chairman’s close allies in Bosaaso and Garowe ,Horseedmedia reporter Hudayfi has said.
“I think Media Association of Puntland was formed to protect our unity not to divide us so we are calling its international partners to suspend their support. The chairman should figure out this growing corruption until that we are not working with him “ Garowe Online editor Mohamed Salad Haji said.
At least three phone calls and five massages to Khalif seeking comment went unanswered. Punltand regional state had enjoyed relative stable since 1998.
