Somalia Opposition Parties, Jubaland & Puntland Merge To Form NSC
Somalia’s opposition candidates have ganged up with federal members states leaders of Jubaland and Puntland and formed National Salvation council (NSC).
In a statement NSC said they council is formed to order to practise a fair, inclusive and non-violent national elections in Somalia after several election deadline were missed.
The National Salvation Council, elected led a four member leadership team namely Senate Speaker Abdi Hashi, Jubaland leader Ahmed Madobe, Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
The team has selected Speaker Abdi Hashi to be the leader of the National Salvation Council.
According to the statement the objective of NSC is to ensure holding free and fair elections and resolve current electoral impasse.
The announcement by comes barely two days after Junaland, Puntland leaders and the opposition held separate talks in Mogadishu.
The UN has expressed in the past expressed concern over the current electoral impasse and warned of not holding inclusive free and fair elections.
