Somalia: floods force residents to flee villages near Jilib district
Flash floods swept through villages near Al shabaab controlled Jilib town in middle Jubba region in southern Somalia, forcing hundreds of residents to flee their houses, a villager said.
Confirming the catastrophe, one of the residents living in Jilib town told Radio Shabelle that the floods followed after Jubba river has burst its banks and washed away several nearby villages, destroying farming lands.
People who fled from the floods are in need of humanitarian assistance.
Reports from Jilib indicate that In some places, rain-swollen rivers burst their banks and force many other residents to flee their villages, if the flooding situation is not limited.
Jilib, which is currently an Al shabaab stronghold located in southern Somalia and it is prone to flash floods when Jubba river hit full crest.
