Somalia Continues Reporting Steady Rise In COVID-19 Cases As Total Exceeds 10,000
Somalia continued registering a steady increase in the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases as an additional 129 cases were reported on Monday taking the number of confirmed cases in the country to 10,210.
The horn of the African country is currently experiencing a second wave of infections, according to the Health ministry, prompting the government to extend the to extends Covid-19 restrictions for 2 more weeks in addition to imposing fresh restrictions, such as a ban on gatherings for 30 days.
The death toll from the pandemic in the country also continued edging closer to the 550 mark after 12 more people succumbed to the disease.
The number of recoveries also rose by 34 to stand at 4,532.
Somalia received 300,000 doses from the COVAX facility last week and started the vaccine rollout.
The COVID-19 vaccination kicked off in the country with the frontline health workers, security personnel and elderly persons.
