Somalia: 19 People killed by AU soldiers in barrage shelling
The African Union Mission for Somalia (AMISOM) troops have on Tuesday fired several mortar rounds into residential areas in Marka town lies 109km south-west of Mogadishu, residents said.
In Tuesday’s bombardment killed at least 19 people including Qur’an teachers, students, women and children while more than 17 others injured in the shelling, residents told Shabelle Media based in Mogadishu.
The incident came after anonymous gunmen hurled hand grenades on African Union peacekeepers from Burundi in the town Marka, capital of Somalia’s lower Shabelle region.
Meanwhile, Minister of Interior and Federal Republic of Somalia Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein Odowa told BBC that Somalia authority would not allow AU troops to massacre innocent of people by no meaning.
The latest reports from the town suggested that big demonstrations started in Marka after AMISOM killed more than 19 people. Tires burned down on the streets in the town.
