Somali security and AMISOM forces capture Barawe, says regional adnimistrator
Somali security and African Union forces took over with out resistance the port town of Barawe the AlQaeda affiliated radical group of al shabaab on Saturday , say regional adnimistrator .
Abdulkadir Sidi, commissioner of Lower Shabelle region told reporters that security forces moved into Barawe early in the morning and had meeting with elders of the city.
“Today we are happy recapturing Barawe after six year of al shabaab control , no single shot was heard and tso far they pulled out a day before we arrive” said Sidi.
Somali Security forces and AMOSOM set up new bases at the outskirt of Barawe in anxiety of that land mines may have been planted in by al shabaab.
Some of the residents in Barawe fled of concerns that fighting could flare up inside the city as well as threats from al shabaab warning people having relationship with government forces could face punishment.
