Somali forces foil Al shabaab attacks in Mogadishu, says security minister
The internal security minister of Somalia Abdirisak Omar Mohamed unveiled that the federal government security forces have in the past 24 hours foiled attacks by Al shabaab in Mogadishu.
Speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting, the minister said the security personnel responded quickly to thwart the impending bomb and gun attacks by Al shabaab following a tip-off from local residents in the capital.
Security and defense ministers of Somalia briefed the cabinet on the security situation of the country, specially Mogadishu, after Al shabaab has killed lawmakers and army officers in the past few days.
Somali national army (SNA) and AMISOM forces have pushed Al shabaab out of many key towns, including Mogadishu, Kismayo and Barawe in south and central regions in the past five years.
