Six Children Wounded By KDF Airstrike In Gedo Region Airlifted To Mogadishu
At least six children who were reportedly wounded in Kenya’s airstrike on Thursday, May, 3, have been airlifted to the capital Mogadishu for treatment.
Two people including a mother and her child were among those killed in the airstrike on Thursday last week.
The airstrikes alleged to be Kenya Defence Forces hit villages including Elcadde, Likooley, Laheley, Warburray, Burcaleen, Dhamase, Wargaduudo, Qulqul Shubaal, Balanbaal, Muudale, Abroone, Buursaar cows Qurun and Daru-Salaam in southern Somalia.RELATED POSTSSomalia condemned the airstrike in a statement and cited the ‘indiscriminate airstrike in Gedo region, Jubaland State, on the 3rd of June, as the most recent example of Kenyan Defence Force (KDF) operations resulting in the death and maiming of civilians, including women and children.
“These KDF operations cloaked under a claim of carrying out operations against extremism are undoubtedly conducted in a manner that is bereft of its obligation under the UNSC’s AMISOM mandate,” the ministry stated.
African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) said it will investigate the incident reports of the airstrikes against civilians.
”The Mission is therefore committed to investigating all allegations of rights violations that are levelled against troops under its command in Somalia. Towards this end, AMISOM shall fully investigate the alleged incident and the findings shall be shared with all relevant stakeholders,” AMISOM said in a statement.
