Puntland injustice revealed
I haven’t been happy with how Puntland government runs the administration from the first get-go till now, from outsider’s point of view, it looks like that Puntland has really set a good example to the rest of the country in how to run a state, what most of the people don’t know is what is happening inside Puntland.
In this composition i am going to reveal to the world the uncountable injustice system of Puntland that became a recurring phenomena.
I don’t mind expressing my opinions and speaking out against injustice. I would be doing this even if I wasn’t a writer. I have always understood myself as having an obligation to stand on the side of the silenced, the oppressed, and the mistreated.
I am a person who believes in asking questions, in not conforming for the sake of conforming. I am deeply dissatisfied – about so many things, about injustice, about the way Punt land works – and in some ways, my dissatisfaction drives my storytelling.
Since its existence Puntland had 4 presidents of whom all belong to the same tribe Mahamud Saleman, Sub clan of Majerteen, the rest are second class citizens who through out the years acquired a disease called psychological repression (a process by which unacceptable desires or impulses are excluded from consciousness and left to operate in the unconscious ) which in the current context of Puntland means they have accepted to stay under the injustice control of Mohamoud Saleman in which the current president (Gaas) took the tribalism into a whole new level where by he nominated 18 important positions to his tribe out of 23.
He even nominated one of his cousins as Puntland community chairperson in Finland, Come on Professor!!, Finland is outside your jurisdictions, you can only nominate positions with in Puntland.
The president barely knows what is happening in Puntland, he is the kind of people that can easily be manipulated or kept in the dark by his ministers and high rank officials, to give you an example, Jaqanaf and Bosaso mayor steal local government taxes by taking half price unregistered taxes from the trucks leaving Bosaso to the regions, the trucks won’t be stopped at any check point in Puntland, every checkpoint officer is bribed. To my surprise, every body in Puntland knows this except the president, Wake up Gaas.
The professor is educated man, but he has been blinded by tribalism and favouritism.
One might argue that the professor is highly qualified economist, i would say he was only expert in solving economic problems in classrooms, never had a real life economic problem, my theory stands true as long as Puntland economy is dipping in down.
The most undemocratic state in the world, one tribe controls the state, from president, key ministries, head of army, port, airports, governor of Mudug, Nugaal, and Karkaar, and at the same time Mayors of the Galkayo, Garowe, Gardo and 90% of the towns, villages in those regions, even though there are other tribes who equally live in those regions, the other tribes are oppressed and can’t demand or run for administration.
The Puntland government followed preferential policies that favoured Mohamoud Saleman for government jobs, government contracts, Humanitarian contracts, and education scholarships, this in result denied equal political, economical and social rights to the rest of Puntland inhabitants(70%), a clear alienation was seen among the rest.
All types of Oppressions has been witnessed in Puntland;
Oppression= Supremacist Ideology + Discriminatory Acts + Structural Dominance.
Injustice boils in men’s hearts as does steel in its cauldron, ready to pour forth, white hot, in the fullness of time.
Punt land DOES NOT belong to one tribe only. Punt land has more than 45 tribes. to say that the decision of one tribes is the decision of the whole state is fallacy and outright dictatorship and tribalism.
We all know the awful tribalism incident where by Farole and Gas (TFG Prime minister at that time) orchestrated the Turkish scholarships by awarding it only to their Mohamoud Saleman students, while other students decided to flee from the tribally controlled state to Europe by going through the african Sahara desert, many of them died in the process of immigration, and those who made it to Europe don’t call themselves Puntlanders any more.
The President chairs the Council of Ministers but the Council is not invested with executive authority which immediately suggests that the Council of Ministers is merely a symbolic structure that does not exude or contain real power. It is more of an implementational than decision-making organ that may even be redundant, and can be replaced instantly with a puppet from the same tribe, thus the president is a typical super-presidential regime.
The Puntland council of Shiekhs has numerously repeated that governing tribe should impose an equal right in political seats, equal opportunities, to avoid a response of mass political rebellion, how ever the message was ignored.
The out come of the Oppression:
The out come of oppression is hate, ethno-violence, that can cause political movement against the regime of MS.
- Khatumo, SSC, and Casayr Land administrations were all announced after they have seen the dictatorship and political corruptions of Mohamoud Saleman of how one tribe is manipulating the rest of the state, so each decided not to be part of this unrealistic administration.
- Educated students immigrated from the country due to lack of employment equality, and receiving mockery response when ever they apply government jobs, this led to the deaths of hundreds of Puntlanders while on the course of immigration.
- We all know the awful tribalism incident where by Farole and Gas (TFG Prime minister at that time) orchestrated the Turkish scholarships by awarding it only to their Mohamoud Saleman students, while other students decided to flee from the tribally controlled state to Europe by going through the african Sahara desert, many of them died in the process of immigration, and those who made it to Europe don’t call themselves Puntlanders any more.
- We all heard what happened in December last year when President Gaas engineered the election of his cousin for the Chairman of Chamber of commerce, 700 companies had the license of the chamber, and they only granted 111 biased companies for the right to vote, majority of them were owned by his tribe. how could you favour a licensed company over another one ? The winner for the best villain actor in this Chamber drama was Sheikh Fuad who lost his credibility and integrity among the the Puntlanders, he was the master mind of this unjust setup.
- I have witnessed one of the most unfortunate, inhumane move taken by punt land officials , was that they refused the humanitarian aid flow to the remote lands in Puntland such as Sanaag and Bari regions labeling those places as a terrorist or unsafe locations, even though people were and are in great need of water and food as as a result of famine, in other words the ruling tribe wants other tribes to starve.
- President Gas announced he will nominate election committee, we already know he will follow the injustice footsteps of his preceding president Farole, who nominated all three Majerteen positions to his clan Mohamoud Saleman, where are the rest of the Majerteen clans ?
- The only remaining action is a rebellion or uprising movement where by the people engage a revolutionary wave of demonstration and riots, all the signs that lead protests are here in Puntland, including dictatorship, absolute monarchy, human rights violations, and political corruptions.
- The reshuffle of the Puntland ministers this month was nothing but adding salts to the wounds, nominating the finance minister to his tribe, another twist directed by the so called Boqor Burhan, a bandit in the making, and was agreed by an unsophisticated wanna be politician Shire Haji.
Political Remedy:
I suggest the following steps as a remedy to avoid the forecasted rebellion movement that might put our darling punt land in a collateral damage, and it is not that i am willing this to happen but we all have seen that oppression is of finite duration, examples are the somali regime government, and the Arab spring, that were all ousted by the people:
- Sharing power among various tribes of Puntland, thus reducing political conflicts, and the best way would be using a system pre-defined and agreed seat allocation for all tribes.
- Sharing Education Scholarships equally among students of Puntland, to avoid repeating the unfortunate episode in 2010.
- Equal rights to government jobs and government contracts.
- replacing at least 50% of the stolen seats by Mohamud Saleman and forking over to those tribes who don’t have any or less seats in the government.
- Promotion of equality, National healing, cohesion and unity
