President Farmaajo Arrives In Uganda To Attend Re-Elected President Yoweri Museveni Inauguration
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo Wednesday arrived in Kampala ahead of the swearing-in of Ugandan President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Farmaao is among several heads of states and governments scheduled to attend today’s inauguration of re-elected Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Kololo Independence ceremonial grounds in the capital Kampala under strict COVID-19 prevention measures, according to the ministry for the presidency after which the invited leaders from Africa and will retreat for a reception at the capital Kampala.
Other heads of states and governments listed as guests at the ceremony include African Union Chairman and President Évariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), Emmerson Mnangagwa (Zimbabwe), Salva Kiir (South Sudan), Hage Gottfried Geingob (Namibia) and Alpha Conde (Guinea).
Although President Museveni has been in power since 1986, today’s swearing-in ceremony marks his sixth term in office making him Africa’s long-time leader.
Uganda and Somalia enjoy a special relationship on various economic fronts including trade.
The two countries are also partners in the war against terror as the Somalia government continuously faces daunting challenges of militants group Al-Shabaab.
Besides joint initiatives to combat terrorism by the two countries, Somalia and Kenya are also key partners of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in its efforts to restore lasting peace in Somalia.
Ugandan troops make a bulk of the African Union force helping Somalia’s UN-backed government.
