Pirates infighting in Galkacyo over ransom paid for the release of German-American journalist
At least five people were killed in Galkacyo on Thursday after in-fighting over split of 1.6 million ransom sparked among pirates who on last Tuesday freed Michael Scott Moore, a German-American journalist who was kidnapped in Somalia and held for two years and eight months, as said by an official in Galkacyo .
“ Unexpectedly , we heard bullets sprung everywhere and pirates chasing each other in the streets” said a security official who quited for his name to be mentioned in this report.
Pirate Commander on Wednesday said negotiators paid a $1.6 million ransom for the release Michael Scott Moore.
A German spokeswoman would not confirm that money was paid for the freedom of Michael Scott Moore and U.S. policy prohibits paying ransoms.
