Jubbaland president Ahmed Madobe has sacked his embattled security minister Abdirashid Janan in what could be a concession in talks with President Mohamed Farmaajo.
The office of the state President said in a letter dated March 20 that Janan who is wanted by the Federal Government had been relieved of his duties.
“Following discussions with the deputy president of Jubbaland state, the president of Jubbaland state sacked Abdirashid Hassan Abdinuur, Jubbaland Security Minister,” the letter read in part.
Janan’s sacking comes amid negotiations between Farmaajo and the allied faction of Ahmed Madobe (Jubbaland) and his Puntland counterpart Abdullahi Deni.
The Federal Government issued an international warrant of arrest against Janan early last year after he escaped custody in Mogadishu.
Janan was wanted for alleged human rights violations in Gedo region.
Jubbaland forces under the command of Janan fought with Federal Government last year and this year in Belet Hawo resulting in deaths and displacements.
