High-Level Delegation From Ethiopia Arrives In Somaliland
A high-level delegation from Ethiopia led by Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, arrived in Berbera, Somaliland on Thursday for the official opening of the first phase of the extended Berbera port.
The delegation was warmly received by the President of Muse Bihi upon arrival. Among the delegation includes the Minister of Transport and Mustafa Mohammed, President of the Somali Regional State (SRS) in Ethiopia.
”The president of the Republic of Somaliland H.E Muse Bihi welcomes Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide, Minister of Transport Hon Dagmawit Moges and the President of the Somali Regional State Mustapha Agjar who will attend the Berbera Port Expansion ceremony in Berbera,” Presidency of the Republic of Somaliland said in a statement.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) based port operator DP World renovated Berbera port.
DP World Berbera, a joint venture company at Berbera Port, will serve landlocked countries in the Horn of Africa, including Ethiopia, which has a 19% interest in the project.
As part of the project, DP World will also create an economic free zone in the surrounding area, targeting a range of companies from logistics to manufacturing, and a US$ 100M road-based economic corridor connecting Berbera with Wajaale in Ethiopia
