Gunmen kill prominent businessman, bodyguard in central Somali town
Unidentified gunmen have shot and killed a well-known businessman and his bodyguard in central Somalia Tuesday, officials said.
Haji Omar Mohamed Nur (Hagi Quurow) and his bodyguard were killed in an attack by men dressed in military uniformin Beledweyne town on Tuesday morning, and escaped before troops arrived the scene, said Mohamed Osman, the commissioner of the town.
He said his forces were pursuing the attackers who are believed to be members of the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabab.
However, there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the latest attack on the businessman who survived a murder attempt by gunmen last year. He was injured in that attack.
Hagi Quurow was currently undertaking a construction project for the city’s administration headquarters.
