Government Apologises Over Shooting Of Former President’s Convoy
The Somali government has appointed a committee to probe the shooting of a convoy carrying former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday evening near Benadir court in Mogadishu.
Speaking to the media Justice Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur said the custodial corps spread bullets on the convoy ‘unintentionally’ and ”accidentally” and apologised to the former President.
Confirming the incident Custodial police Commander Gen. Mahad Abdirahman said the corps were only manning the checkpoints and had no bad intention of firing at the convoy of the former President Hassan Sheikh.
Opposition officials have condemned the shooting of the convoy and called on Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to investigate the “assassination attempt” against the former head of state.
”Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble must investigate the assassination attempt against the ex president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. This happened 40 minutes ago. I myself was travelling with the president along with the former chief of NISA Sanbalolshe. This is an unacceptable provocation against the president,” Abdirizak Mohamed Former Minister of Internal Security and current federal member of parliament said.
