Dubai Anti piracy conference addresses Piracy threats in Somalia
Abdirahman Duale Beyle, the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation of Somalia is among the delegates and he said that piracy can be rooted out in Somalia coast if the international community supports the ongoing efforts on the issue.
“Through our combined efforts, we have made remarkable progress, reducing the number of successful attacks over the last two years to zero.” UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said.
Somali foreign minister Abdurrahman Du’ale said that piracy debilitated the Somali’s reputation and steps against them are needed. Recently EU diplomats warned merchant ships to use Somalia coast due to piracy.
In 2009 there were 51 hijackings off the Somali coast, in 2012 the number was seven and dropped to zero in 2013 according to UN.
