BREAKING: Al Shabab withdraws from Bardhere town
Heavily armed Al Qaeda linked Al Shabab militants have reportedly withdrawn from Bardhere town in south Somalia’s Gedo region as coalition forces advanced to town, residents said.
The government troops along with African Union forces from Ethiopia have moved towards Bardhere town where Al Shabab has been controlling for more than 7 years, according to sources who spoke to Shabelle Media based in Mogadishu.
The Al Shabab official, Sheikh Fiilow, in charge of Gedo region said that its militants are vacating from the town of Bardhere in south of Somalia. He added that they would move to middle Juba region.
The move comes after hundreds of Somalia National Army backed by African Union forces launched new military offensive against Al Shabab held areas in Bay and Gedo regions in south of Somalia.
