The commissioner of Wardhigley district in Mogadishu Yassin Noor Issa said he will not accept AMISOM vehicles to drive through his district especially on Florence Road which connects Presidential Palace “Villa Somalia” and Mogadishu Stadium , Which is currently one of the most important military bases for African peacekeepers .
This followed after Wardhigley residents demonstrated against the death of a nine year old boy who was this afternoon ran over by AMISOM vehicle. “AMISOM vehicles are banned to drive on the road that connects Villa Somalia and Mogadishu Stadium”.
Mr. Yassin said. “AMISOM should also pay compensation “Diya” due to the young boy they have killed”.
He also said the AMISOM vehicle that ran over the young boy was over speeding and it didn’t stop ever after running over the boy.
The incident happened near 15 May High School.
On the other hand, the guards at Villa Somalia fired bullets into the air so as to disperse hundreds of angry rioters who were against the incident.
The riots took place between Florence Road and Villa Somalia.
The rioters went all the way to the front gate of Villa Somalia complaining about the reckless driving by AMISOM which took the life of that innocent child. The angry rioters also cut off roads using stones and burning tyres.
Earlier on, government officials requested them to stop the rioting as they pledged that their needs will be addressed by the government the soonest people. The government officials also pledged that the AMISOM driver who ran over the young boy will be brought to book.
Situation is calm there at the moment after the demonstrators were convinced that what they are asking for will be done.
It is not the first time AMISOM vehicle harmed the residents of Mogadishu. AMISOM drivers usually drive on the streets of Mogadishu with a high speed.
