27 People Arrested For Human Smuggling In Mogadishu
Somali police have arrested 27 Somali citizens arrested for alleged links to a human trafficking cartel run in the capital Mogadishu on Sunday.
Speaking at a news briefing Somali police spokesman Sadiq Aden Ali said 22 of the people arrested are women.
“The human trafficking syndicate has been operating the capital for a while, the police officers acting on a tip-off, have successfully arrested the operators. Our officers are carrying out investigations into their cases and soon they will be taken to court to face charges,” the police spokesperson, said Sadiq Ali.
According to the spokesman, suspects will be arraigned in court in the coming days to answer charges.
Last year authorities in the Somali state of Puntland said they rescued 324 trafficked children.
Most of the children rescued originated from Mogadishu, Jowhar, Beletweyn, and Afgoye according to the authorities.
