18 Al Shabab militants killed in military operation
in an online statement, AMISOM claimed to have killed at least 18 Al Shabab members in an operation in two towns in central Somalia.
Its statement reads that two senior Al Shabaab commanders were killed in the military operation launched by African Union (AU) troops in Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeepers.
The operation happened in Ceel Hele and Ceel Goras in central Somalia’s Galgadud region.
Somalia army, along with African Union forces have successfully defused Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that were planted along the routes, according to press release.
The operation was also carried out by coalition forces in several towns including Beledweyne & Bule Burto towns in central Somalia’s Hiran province.
The Somalia army, backed by AMISOM peacekeeping troops claimed to have taken control of Berdere, Berhano, Tergent, Nur Fanah, Grasian and Halgen towns from Al Shabaab.
“we captured six strategic towns from Al Shabaab militants in a newly military offensive against rebel-held towns in south and central Somalia” a military commander said.
No word was available from Al Shabaab over victory claims by Somalia National Army (SNA) and African Union (AU) peacekeeping forces.
