Somalia’s National Salvation Forum Contacts African Union Ahead Of Mediation Talks
The National Salvation Forum (NSF) presents it’s complements to the embassy of the republic of Djibouti in Ethiopia. We farther request that,in your capacity as the chair of the African Union Peace and Security Council, you bring the present letter to the attention of all members of the council prior to councils debate on Somalia on 22 April 2021.
The AU through its deployment of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) continues to make ultimate surprises for the future of our nation. We write to you regarding the current political stand off and electoral cross in Somalia and recognize and welcome the increase and concern shown by the AU Peace and Security Council as the standing organ of the African Union Commission and hope the council will guide the commission towards a constructive part for Somalia.
We begin by recognising AU PSC’s role in the unique path Somalia has been on in the past fifteen years. This commitment by the African Union has been geared by towards rebuilding the spirit of consensus in the country which has taken painstakingly careful and patient politics and a spirit of compromise. Somalia had made slow and steady progress and has since been recognised for establishing a culture of peaceful hand over of power, a gradual rebuilding of the national security forces, and the recent momentous victory of attaining a HIPC Decision point which opened the path for Somalia citizens to access prosperity. Unfortunately, by the deliberate obstruction of dialogue and refusal to find compromise, by the president whose term ended, all this great efforts are at risk.
