Somali pastoralists in Hiran province decry raging drought
The pastrolists in parts of Hiran province in south central Somalia have decried shortage of pasture and water that is resulted by the drought in parts of the larger war torn country.
Pastoralist’s Afyare Abdulle who lives with his animals in Jigey 40 kilometers north eastern Hiran provincial headquarters Beledweyn has described how he lost several number of his animals due to the intensity of the drought.
“It has not rained for past two years, no enough pasture and water for the animals,” He said.
“Some of my livestocks have succumbed to the drought and the remaining is weak,” He added.
Falis Ahmed who lives among the areas affected by the drought has said a lot of the residents in Burdigle have fled to Beledweyn 35 kilometers to escape the worsening drought situation.
However, some women, children and elderly who can’t afford the journey are still in area surviving with the little support from aid agencies visiting the area.
The price of the water has doubled from 20,000 to 80,000 Somali shilling per 20 liters due to the shortage of the precious commodity.

Somali president has appealed to the international community to help his country against the raging drought and famine which has affected approximately 3.2 million citizens.
Between July 2011 and mid-2012, a severe drought the worst in 60 years affected Somalia which caused severe food crisis and claimed hundreds of lives especially women and children
