Food aid donated by UAE Sold in the open markets of Mogadishu, say IDP camp administrator
Emerging reports say that in Food aid donated by United Arab Emirates is widely dispersed and sold in open Mogadishu markets . The food aid packages including rice, edible cooking oil , clothes , dates and other items was designated to the impoverished people especially the Internal Displaced People in camps in Mogadishu. “ Young people corresponded by UAE for the distribution utilizatilize it as they wish for the sake of that they lack of accountibility “ said Mohamed Abdi, an administrator of one the IDP’s camps citing that most food aid goes to sales outlets in Bakara Market and elsewhere . “ Through merchant interceded brokers these young people realize huge amount of money perhaps thousands of Dollars “ said Abdi. A small amount of the aid is distributed as demonstration to the destituted people to entertain those who has donated despite selling most of aid , as desribed by a governemnt official who spoke to Somalireport24 in anonmity. “ What we almost witness is UAE food aid scattered and sold in the markets “ said Asha Mohamed , a mother of four children who lives in a camp at the outskirts of Mogadishu.
