Indiscriminate youngsters mass arrests in Hargeysa
Infront of their house stand a young aged 14, he is Mohamed Jama , a student who lives at New Hargeysa , a welknown residential area in East of Hargeysa, as it is an evening he wants to go for an evening class where he learns English but he can’t go. He is afraid of indiscriminate youngsters mass arrests by the security forces and police.
The young boys are not able to go without the accompany of their parents because in Hargeysa gang group start to emerge, as said by the security officials.
The gang group dominate and sometimes enforce the youngsters to join or being targeted by these groups.
“ Some of members join them for safety because you are not safe if you do not belong to a group…as Somali proverb goes “Be a mountain or be upon a mountain”said Jama Ali, a young student in Hargeysa.
Parents are worried by this arrests and some of them imposed strict orders to their young sons not to go out at night .
“ We are concerned by this but it is difficult to know whether your son joins the gang groups or not it something relating peer groups and adolescency “ said Bihi Awaleh, a father .
Somaliland Armed Forces Commander General Shaqalle confirmed that in the last two weeks 332 youngsters arrested and it is still contuining .
“ The youngsters disturbed the general security situation of the capital , they have established organized gang groups…they steal people’s properties forcibly and may join other criminal groups outside Somaliland ..we can’t tolerate to these actions” said Shaqalle.
These youngsters who mainly boys were arrested from different parts of the capital and are detained detention centers outside Hargeysa.
