President Mohamud arrives in Sudan as Somalia mourns victims of Saturday’s terror attack
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Khartoum, Sudan, on Sunday night, where he met with the Minister of Defense of Sudan, Major General Yassin Ibrahim Yassin.
Villa Somalia said that the President’s visit to Sudan focused on shoring up support in the fight to eradicate the al-Qaeda-affiliated armed group al Shabab.
advertisementsPresident Mohamud and his delegation will attend the Arab League Summit in Algeria.
Arab leaders meet in the Algerian capital on Tuesday for their first summit since a string of normalization deals with Israel that have divided the region.
The summit remains a steadfast supporter of the Palestinians, even mediating a reconciliation deal in October between rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas.
The President’s trip comes as the nation grapples with coming to terms with the deadliest terror attack in the past five years. Over 120 people were killed and 300 maimed after two suicide bombers detonated their trucks in the middle of a busy Mogadishu intersection.
