Al-Shabaab Hits Bari Region Settlement With Mortar Attack

Reports from Galgala area of Bari region of Puntland indicate that Al Shabaab has carried out mortar attacks in the area.

Locals reported up to 20 rounds landed in Galgala with the explosions being heard from nearby areas creating fear in the community.

Local security officials in the area also reported one officer was lost but provided no further information.

Puntland forces have a presence in the attacked area which is home to agro-pastoral communities.

The forces have previously engaged Al-Shabaab in fierce battles but are yet to fully drive them out of the areas which are mostly hilly in nature.
