Puntland’s security forces on Sunday carried out an operation in the northern part of Galkayo city after receiving information about drug traffickers who were operating in the city.
The security forces have beleaguered the area and wanted to arrest the drug traffickers who retaliated immediately.
One person was killed and four others were injured in the clash between the security officers and the drug traffickers.
Security forces in Puntland have arrested members of a drug trafficking gang after hours of surveillance, according to sources in North Galkayo.
Prior to this operation, President Said Abdullahi Deni instructed the security agencies to take action against anyone involved in the trafficking and use of narcotics that are part of the community’s problems such as robberies.
Since then the security forces have been carrying out operations against any group that sells drugs such as alcohol, hashish & cocaine which are intensifying in North Galkayo, which is part of Puntland.
The Governor of Mudug region, Abdilatif Muse Nur Sanyare has also ordered the arrest of drug traffickers to improve and maintain stability in Galkayo.
However, Security forces have in earlier operations lost Osman Omar Mohamed the Commander of the Puntland Security forces attached to the office of President while leading an anti-alcohol operation in the city on 9 August 2020.
