Somali Foreign Ministry denies accusations against Deputy FM
Somali Foreign Ministry denied accusations against Deputy Foreign Minister, Mukhtar Mahad Daud barely two days after the police raided the office of the deputy minister in Mogadishu.
On Saturday, Attorney General Ahmed Ali Dahir accused Mr. Daud of “stealing public funds”.
Mr. Daud was blamed for using the office for personal interest.
Mr. Dahir said that there was a 4-month long investigation into alleged corruption levelled against Mr. Daud.
In a statement, the Somali Foreign Ministry termed the allegations against Mr. Daud as “far from the truth” and “slander”.
The ministry condemned the raid on the office of the deputy minister by the police officers.
“Anti-terror police unit had stormed the building of the ministry and The ministry sees that (the raid) as an act to destroying the trust and cooperation that were initially,” the statement reads in part.
The statement comes two days after Mr. Daud was summoned to appear before a court in Mogadishu.
Mr. Daud earlier failed to appear in the court after the prosecutors levelled charges of abuse of office against him.
