Somali soldier dies in Mogadishu explosion
One soldier has been killed in Mogadishu after a bomb fitted in their vehicle exploded Sunday morning, witnesses said.
The blast occurred shortly after 7 am in Galmudug neighbourhood of Hodan district.
Two other people were seriously injured in the blast and were rushed to the hospital.
A local resident in the area who sought anonymity for security reasons said the victims were wearing SNA military uniform.
“We heard a loud blast, we immediately came outside and I saw body one person in SNA clad and two other wounded persons,” he said, “We think it was an Improvised Explosive Device, fitted in the car.”
He pointed out that the car was partly destroyed after the bomb went off in the front part of the vehicle
“The explosion was very violent and loud. It was heard all around the area. It shattered the windows and ripped off parts of the front seats of the vehicle,” he stated.
The security agencies who arrived at the scene and launched investigations into the incident.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack but Al-Shabaab carries out similar attacks against military and government officials in the capital.
