Accidental hero: The Somali Woman who saved Danish driver during Copenhagen attack
A woman from Somalia has become an unlikely hero by saving the life of white driver during knife attack last week in Copenhagen of Denmark.
Last Sunday, a young man suspected have been suffering from mental illness attacked a driver of a Copenhagen city bus with a knife.
André Picard, a health reporter and Columnist at Global and Mail who witnessed the incident said the man who was mentally ill stabbed the driver several times before a male passenger intervened and disarmed the assailant.
“Suddenly the man rush to the front of the bus and began viciously punching and stabbing the driver. A passenger intervened- he disarmed and subdued the man. (Turns out he used to be a police officer in Syria.)” Picard narrated.
The unnamed Somali woman together with another woman from Iraq subsequently came to the aid of the driver.
“One (the women) was a nurse from Somalia. The other was a nurse from Iraq. (The bus route services a major hospital,” he stated.
The driver who felt mercy for the mentally disturbed attacker has urged the police who arrived at the scene to help the suffering man hospital.
“The bus driver, despite his injuries, asked police if they could ensure got help for his mental illness,” Picard said.
