Al-Shabab which wants to topple the internationally recognised Somali government, engages deadly clashes with Somali military backed by AU troop in South and central Somalia.
Speaking to the media, Deputy commander of Jubbaland Dervish forces, Mohamed Ahmed Hirsi said the state’s forces launched successful covert opposition against Al-Shabaab fighters in Lower Jubba region.
According to Mr. Hirsi, the operation which eliminated the six Al-Shabaab fighters including top official took place in Badhadhe town.
The officials said the slain Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in a shootout during the operation.
Mr. Hirsi said among those killed was Shurem Adan Ali, the group’s commander for western front.
The operation comes amid Somali and Amisom forces accelerated the offensives against Al-Shabaab fighters in Southern Somalia.
Since the month of May when Jubbaland leader, Ahmed Madobe and officials jointly to intensify the fight against the group, several fighters defected from the group.
Al-Shabaab lost control of major towns including Somali capital after its fighters were defeated in several battlefields in South and central Somalia.
