Galmudug to send reinforcement to local people fighting with Al-shabab
The administration of Galmudug state in Central Somalia is planning to send reinforcement to local people that are fighting with Al-shabab fighters in Mudug region.
Local sources indicate that at least 15 people including the local People and Al-shabab fighters died in the fighting in Aad village, in the central Galmudug administration.
Galmudug chief of ministers, Shiekh Mohamed Shakir held urgent meeting with the security commanders in Dhusa-mareeb district. Sheikh Shakir said his administration will send an immediate back up to the local people fighting with Al-shabab in Galmudug territories.
He underlined the security forces are ready to take action and give support to the villagers defending themselves from Al-shabab’s intentions to recruit their children as fighters.
The fighting between the local villagers and Al-shabab continued for two days in Aad village under Harardheere town of Mudug region.
The clashes embarked after the parents challenged Al-shabab orders to recruit their children as fighters.
According to a villager who spoke to VOA Somali service, Al-shabab fighters met with elders in the area and asked help for their recruitment efforts in the area
“The fighting came after they demanded that we provide young children to fight alongside them,” said the villager who remained anonymous.
He confirmed that the local people organized themselves and resisted Al-shabab’s attacks into the area.
