Somaliland indicates that TFS have no concern of Berabera Port deal
Somaliland indicated that the federal government does not have any work on the port of Berbera, just recently in Mogadishu with an agreement reached between the governments of Somalia and Ethiopia for the development of ports.
Foreign Minister Saeed Ali Shire said “firstly that Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s visit was just similar to those of other African countries but pointed out that Somaliland is only entitled to the port deal of Berbera about who it is worth investing.”
“We have neighboring boarders with Somalia and Ethiopia, we have a lot of interest in them, but for Berbera’s port deal is a matter of concern for Somaliland and its people,” said the minister.
Minister Sa’ad also added that they will travel to Ethiopia to meet with the Ethiopian Prime Minister and discuss the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Somaliland’s parliament approved the partnership with DP World in 2016, paving the way for the world’s fourth biggest port operator to invest $442 million to rebuild the Port of Berbera and manage it through a 30-year concession.
