Farmaajo Sacks CJ Suleiman Appoints Somaliland Opposition Leader Bashe
Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo on Sunday fired the country’s Chief Justice Ibrahim Idle Suleiman, Radio Dalsan reports.
A statement released by Villa Somalia and shared to newsrooms confirmed the sacking of the Chief Justice Suleiman.
“I had pledged that I will restore justice and transparency. I have appointed Hon. Bashe Yusuf Ahmed As the new Chief Justice. I wish the new CJ all the success.” Farmaajo said in the statement.
Ahmed at the time of his appointment was the Chief Executive Officer of Somaliland’s Wadani Party.
Somalia nationals on social media expressed mixed reaction over the appointment of the new Chief Justice who had earlier championed for a “Somaliland Republic”.
The former CJ Suleiman has served as head the Judiciary for two years after his appointment by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in 2016.
The President farther called on the Parliament and the Executive Council to establish Judiciary Service Commission that is consistent with the Somalia Provisional Constitution as a move to re establish the legal system.
