Adado conference delegates approve controversial constitution
Delegates attending a state formation conference in central Somalia have approved a controversial constitution in an overwhelming vote on Wednesday,
Of 351 participants in the regional convention, 310 gave green light to the regional constitution which demarcates central state’s northern border with Puntland at the backyard of Nugal region-something analysts predict; it would risk a new row between Mogadishu-based Federal Government and Puntland.
Somalia Interior Minister, Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein was quick to hail the endorsement of Central State Constitution as a step forward in the ongoing state formation endeavor.
Despite precarious ties, Puntland and Somalia Federal Government signed agreement that splits Mudug into North and South.
The southern border of the federal state set to comprise of South Mudug and Galgadud extends into some part of Hiran and Middle Shabelle.
“It seems powers behind the throne cracked whip, since constitution stipulates that boundary between the two states is Nugal but I am certain of an acid test for Puntland,” an analyst told GO.
Hussein unveiled that Adado conference will enter the third phase of selecting MPs and election of President.
On Monday, Puntland President warned of the violation of Provisional Federal Constitution (PFC) at the expense of Federal Member States.
