Mohameddek Ali Mohamud identified as body found at Canada Olympic Park
Mohameddek Ali Mohamud has been identified by family members as the man in his 20s found dead at Canada Olympic Park near the western edge of Calgary.
A passerby called police around 2:30 a.m. MT Wednesday after discovering the unconcealed body on the ski jump service road. It is a scenic lookout near the top of the park in the 8800 block of Olympic Way S.W.
Imam Abdi Hersy says he has been in contact with the man’s family, and they are devastated.
Hersy said Mohamud left his house shortly before midnight after receiving a call from someone he knew, but never returned.
This is the third death of a young Somali-Calgarian this year.
The death is being investigated as a suspicious, police say. There is no indication yet whether Mohamud died at the scene, or if his body was placed there after.
The person who made the discovery is co-operating with the investigation, says police.
The medical examiner was at the scene earlier this morning, but a cause of death has not yet been determined.
Police say anyone who may have noticed something suspicious should call 403-266-1234 or Calgary Crime Stoppers.
